About the project

My name is Łukasz. I have kept aquariums for 15 years, I manage projects for a living, and I build software in my spare time. Aquarium Monitor brings these three together.

Where the idea came from

I wanted to check whether what I do with my aquarium really works: whether a change in fertiliser, light or CO2 actually shows up in plant growth. Without measurements all you have is an impression, and impressions are easy to fool. So I started measuring the key water parameters continuously and recording every change in the tank.

What I want to achieve

  • See the results in numbers: charts of temperature, pH, CO2 and water level, and a before-and-after comparison for every change.
  • Maximise plant growth: stable CO2, fixed lighting hours and fertilising based on test results (see pH and CO2).
  • React to failures fast: an alert on the phone before a broken heater or a leaking hose does damage.
  • Keep the data at home: everything runs locally, no cloud and no ads.

How the app is made

Every feature is tested on my own tank first. Project management experience helps me plan releases in small steps and test a lot; the full list of changes is in the app, under Settings. The guides on this site come from my own fishkeeping practice.

The app is in testing and free until the end of 2026. If the project proves itself, I want to keep developing it and make it available more widely, including as a ready-made solution for other fishkeepers.

Frequently asked questions

Can I suggest a new feature?

Yes. Write through the form on the site: ideas from fishkeepers are the best source of new features.

Is the app free?

During testing, until the end of 2026, yes.

Keep an eye on your tank from your phone

The app is free and ad-free. The monitor runs on your Raspberry Pi.
